Throttle slide or cable sticking open
Air leak - carb loose, defective crankshaft or flywheel seals, loose or leaking cylinder head, loose spark plug ie. to much air to fuel (lean mixture)
Fuel starvation - partially blocked jet or fuel inlet strainer causing a lean mixture
Hope this helps

Hi Gillian, Sounds like carb probs really. If you take off the carb cover and air filter, see if the slide is moving smoothly open and shut. If it is not, disconnect the cable and remove the carb body and see why it's sticking. Failing that, check that the throttle cable is running smoothly by twisting the accelerator on the handlebars-if it's notchy or sticks---replace it. One other thing, the cylinder is getting fuel from somewhere---it could be sucking in air, but it would rev high then die, so check that the gasket beneath the carb is o.k. and the float is closing . Good luck-- have a word with Rob at Riviera Scooters if not sure. Stu
