I have a 1963 Li 150 S.3 in my garage that I am in the process of restoring. I need to do a 12V conversion on it but have never done it before so need some advice on what I need to get in terms of quality parts and also some recommendations as to who to get them from. Anyone got any tips? Phil

I use SIL electronic flywheel welded and lighted by MB Developments, BGM stator and Ducati quality CDI on my TS1 and Mugello. You can use the LI/SX type crank but recommend you upgrade to a GP type crank if your rebuilding the motor because its much stronger. A standard wieght SIL flywheel is very heavy which is good for torque and smooth idle but likely to twist an li/sx crank if you miss a gear at high revs on a powerful motor. It is recommended that you have the centre boss welded on powerful motors because rivets come loose but use on a standard 150 would not require this. When you buy a flywheel ensure the fins have been machined down for standard cowl use, they come with long fins when standard. Standard SIL stators are hit and miss some will last a lifetime others will fail at the drop of a hat, same with the CDI quality Italian is best. The AF electronic kit is expensive and the flywheel can have clearance issues with the stator securing bolts and is also manufactured in india nowadays so sufferes similar reliabilty issues stator wise. Hope this helps you, any more questions fire away.

Thanks Martin - that's very helpful. Not sure I have the technical know how to do the job but I guess the only way to learn is to do it. I may call on you for further advice when I get started.
