Can anyone please give me a straight answer, i have recently purchased a 6 year old p2 with very little miles on it, infact it isn't run in yet. Now i've been told that all the newer models should run on fully synthetic 2 stroke oil, and i've also been told that you should never run in a motor on fully synthetic. I cannot get hold of the previous owner to find out what he had already used, so i am in a little bit of a pickle as what to use . Please can anyone shed some light on this one, i really don't want to knacker up a nearly new engine .

Run it on what vespa recommend, fully synthetic oil, the engine will last longer. Though to be honest the engine has changed little since the mk1 p2 and that ran fine on the oil available then, mineral or semi synthetic in the late 80's. Some people say you can't bed in a new cylinders with full syn oil because it lubricates so well and to use mineral oil for this process, but think of the what else the oil lubricates ie bearings. It is also not recommended to mix mineral and synthetic oils so pick a brand and type and stick to using that. Considering that its a vespa you could probably thrash it from day one without any problems I know plenty that have because of the warranty back up. What i use is fully syn Rock Oil in all my 2-strokes without any problems, Hope this helps.

Thanks Mate, I appreciate the advise, fully synthetic and thrash the hell out of it, and hope for the best. No seriously, it will definately be fully synthetic, it seems that there is no real harm to be done by using it and after all like you say it is a vespa.
